Harry Potter’s Invisibility Cloak A Reality?
Sunday, May 28th, 2006
In 2003 (that’s the date on the source news), a Japanese inventor came up with an invisibility coat. His invention granted near-invisibility by displaying a picture of what is behind you onto the coat. Now, scientists from the UK and the USA have come up with what seems to be sound theory for an [tag]invisibility cloak[/tag] - just like Harry Potter’s!
They say that the key lies in using man-made [tag]metamaterials[/tag] that redirects light and other electromagnetic radiations around it. Kinda like how water flows around a boulder in a flowing river. Since our eyes work by interpreting light that bounces off objects, the wearer of this exotic metamaterial would be effectively [tag]invisible[/tag] since the light never bounced off him!
Pretty neat, huh? Too bad that if science pulls this off, the first application would be in the military before any toned down version would ever hit stores for Halloween…
If you have never watched [tag]Harry Potter[/tag] (or missed out on the cloak of invisibility action), then get the DVDs.
