Mosquitotone - If You Are Old, You Probably Won’t Hear The Phone Ring

Saturday, October 7th, 2006

That’s right. As you age, you start to lose the ability to hear very high frequencies.

Generally, humans have a hearing range between 64Hz to 23kHz. As we age, we start to lose the ability to hear the top ends.

That is where the new trendy ‘Mosquitotone’ come in. Imagine a ringtone for your mobile phone that cannot be heard by adults and you pretty much get the idea.

Originally developed by the Welsh business to deter gangs of younsters from loitering around stores and upsetting customers, it is now the new craze in mobile phone ringtones.

MosquitoIf you are able to hear the ringtone pitch that is a bit above the capability of your colleagues, then the ‘Mosquitotone’ is a great option to have. Vibrate mode makes this annoying vibrating sound if placed on a surface, and you do miss a call sometimes when you don’t notice the vibrations. Silent mode tends to flash the display on some phones and is quite noticeable in a dimmed down meeting room for example.

Besides, it would be a one-up on your peers if you can hear something that they can’t!

Check out how high a frequency you can hear at Ultrasonic Ringtones.

I’m not young anymore, but I can hear up to 16.7kHz. And the test says I am 20 years old due to that!
