Computers, Memories, Viruses and The Future

What does it all have in common?
The answer: viruses may well be the [tag]computer memory[/tag] of the future. Not the software kind of virus but like the flu kind of virus.
The particular virus involved is know as the tobaco mosaic virus. This [tag]virus[/tag] is turned into a high speed transistor by covering 30-nanometer-long chunks with platinum nano-particles. The advantage of using the tobaco mosaic virus as a transistor is a speed increase of up to a thousand fold compared to current memory technology.
The challenge now is to find a way to wire-up the viruses for practical use in a memory chip. One more thing though - aren’t the viruses supposed to eat something or are they useful as transistors even if they are dead? We might end up having to feed our memory chips!
